Installing a GammaLink Fax Board

This document describes the steps required to install a GammaLink fax board for use with the ExtraFax server. Some hints for troubleshooting are also included in this document.

Installation
Depending on the device driver bundled with your Dialogic fax board, you will have to install either Dialogic System Release 5.1.1 or 6.0 onto the ExtraFax server. You can download the drivers from the Dialogic website if necessary:

Important Note: If you are installing using System Release 5.1.1, during the installation process, please remember to select CUSTOM on the Setup Options screen.


In the Custom Component Selection dialog box, clear all components and select only the GDK component.


Important Note: No matter which version of System Release you are using, following the installation make sure the Auto Answer and Use Queue File options are unchecked for each fax channel in the Dialogic GammaLink Fax Configuration.>> (Start Programs Intel Dialogic System Software Configuring GDK Control Panel Applet).


Important Note: Dialogic often publishes new Service Updates, which can be downloaded from the Dialogic website. Service Updates deliver cumulative fixes in the System Release with guaranteed interoperability. We would strongly recommend installing the latest version of Service Update to take advantage of any fixes and thus minimize the chance of any problems from happening.

At the time of writing this document, Feature Pack 1 Service Update 144 is the latest update for System Release 5.1.1. Windows Service Update 155 is the latest update for System Release 6.0. The Service Update files and their release notes can also be found at the following link:

Since System Release 5.1.1 Feature Pack 1 Service Update 69, the installation procedure has changed. Feature Pack 1 and the latest Service Update are installed together. That means when installing on a new computer, you just need to install System Release 5.1.1 and then install the latest Service Update, without the need of installing Feature Pack 1 separately. For additional installation information, please read the release notes of the Service Update.

Since System Release 6.0 Windows Service Update 22, the installation procedure has changed. System Release 6.0 and the latest Service Update are installed together. That means when installing on a new computer, you just need to install the latest Service Update directly, without the need of installing System Release 6.0 in the first. For additional installation information, please read the release notes of the Service Update.

Important Note: Dialogic System Release 5.1.1 Feature Pack 1 and System Release 6.0 are not free, you may have to purchase them from Dialogic. Extracomm bears no responsibility for providing these software packages. Please consult your fax board supplier or Dialogic product sales representative for further information if necessary.
Important Note: Since the driver version and the installation guide may be updated occasionally, it is better to check for the latest information from the Extracomm Download page and Product Documentation page before starting the installation.
