Installing a Fax Modem
This section describes the steps required to install a fax modem to be used with the ExtraFax Server. Some hints for troubleshooting are also included in this document.
Installation
ExtraFax server is able to support any analog fax modem that is compatible with either Fax Class 1, 2, or 2.0. Please refer to the setup guide bundled with your fax modem for installation details.
How to determine which fax classes are supported by your fax modem?
Please read the following FAQ on the Extracomm website:
http://www.extracomm.com/extracomm/FAQ.NSF/FAQs/27b7c056fb6ffd2f852570c000682ea1
By default, for each modem channel, the ExtraFax server will create a Port Control document with the "Class" parameter set to "FaxModem", which is equivalent to Fax Class 1. We would however recommend using Fax Class 2 if your modem can support it.
If you have switched to use Fax Class 2 and found that the fax content of each newly received fax becomes unreadable, please try toggling the "Fax Data Fill Order" option.
Troubleshooting
- Fax channel does not start up properly...
- Check whether there are any ExtraFax error messages showing on the Domino / ExtraFax consoles.
- Check whether you can connect to the modem with Microsoft HyperTerminal.
