ExtraTxt 3.4 is available now!


New Product Announcement - July 29, 2014

Extracomm Inc. is proud to announce ExtraTxt 3.4. This version is released as a software update and it is available at no charge to all the customers who purchased the ExtraTxt Maintenance plan.

What's New in ExtraTxt 3.4?

New features and enhancements

This version incorporates the following new features and enhancements:

1. Support LDAP Authentication
- When LDAP user logins ExtraTxt, the login request will be passed to the LDAP server (e.g. Microsoft Active Directory Server) for authentication.
- You can configure the LDAP settings in the System Configuration.

2. Support new SMS device: MultiConnect rCell
- ExtraTxt can use MultiConnect rCell as a network GSM modem to send and receive SMS text messages.
- Simply plugs the device into the network and configure settings from its web interface.
- No driver installation and no additional machine is required.

New fixes and updates

1. Support IE 11
- In Internet Explorer 11, charts in dashboard, subscription lists, sweepstakes and text responses cannot be displayed. Now fixed.

2. Support the following virtualization platforms:
- Windows Server 2012 R2 with Hyper-V role installed
- VMware Player 5.x/6.x
- VMware Workstation 10
- Oracle VM VirtualBox 4.x

Discontinued support of features:

The following feature is no longer supported beginning with ExtraTxt 3.4:

Unsupported Feature Suggested Replacement
Skype SMSNone (due to the discontinuation of the Skype's Desktop API)

For new installation:

1. Download and install ExtraTxt 3.0 VM
- Go to Extracomm download page to download ExtraTxt 3.0 VM.
- Follow the installation instructions mentioned in the ExtraTxt 3.4 Installation Guide.

2. Update to ExtraTxt 3.4
- Open your web browser to login ExtraTxt as "Administrator".
- Select "System Management"->"Update".
- Click "Check for update" button.
- Select the ExtraTxt 3.4 update and click "Update" button.
- Select "Confirm Update" to confirm the update.
- Click "Save" button to start the update.
- Wait until the update process is finished.
- Done.

3. Verify ExtraTxt Version
- You can verify the ExtraTxt version by viewing "System Management"->"System Configuration"->"General Information"->"ExtraTxt Information".


How to update from ExtraTxt 3.0:

1. Backup your ExtraTxt
- Before updating your ExtraTxt Server, at a minimum, please perform a full backup by running the backup from "System Management" -> "Backup" in ExtraTxt. It is however highly recommended that you backup the full ExtraTxt virtual machine image files in the event of problem and you need to revert the server to its previous state prior to the ExtraTxt server update. (Please shutdown the virtual machine before copying the virtual machine files.)

2. Update to ExtraTxt 3.4
- Open your web browser to login ExtraTxt as "Administrator".
- Select "System Management"->"Update".
- Click "Check for update" button.
- Select the ExtraTxt 3.4 update and click "Update" button.
- Select "Confirm Update" to confirm the update.
- Click "Save" button to start the update.
- Wait until the update process is finished.
- Done.

3. Verify ExtraTxt Version
- You can verify the ExtraTxt version by viewing "System Management"->"System Configuration"->"General Information"->"ExtraTxt Information".

4. If you are using Remote Port Server, you need to upgrade it to Remote Port Server 1.2.7.
- After updated your ExtraTxt server to 3.4, go to the machine that remote port server has been installed before.
- Uninstall the Remote Port Server from "Control Panel"->"Add or Remove Programs".
- Open web browser to login ExtraTxt as "Administrator".
- Go to "System Management"->"System Configuration".
- Click "Download" to download Remote Port Server 1.2.7.
- Run the setup program to re-install Remote Port Server 1.2.7.
